Write a Letter to Veteran

Join The Sunshine Gang in honoring veterans. Write heartfelt letters to veterans participating in Honor Flights, showing appreciation and gratitude for their service.

What is Honor Flight?

Honor Flight is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring America’s veterans by providing them with free trips to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifices. These flights offer veterans the opportunity to share their stories, remember their fallen comrades, and receive the welcome home they deserve.

Each veteran is accompanied by a volunteer guardian and is celebrated upon their return with a Heroes’ Welcome at John Glenn Columbus International Airport.

Why Write a Letter?

Veterans participating in Honor Flights receive a packet of letters known as “Mail Call.” These letters are a heartfelt gesture to express gratitude and appreciation for their service. Your words can provide comfort, joy, and a sense of being remembered.

What to Write

When composing your letter, consider the following tips:

  • Express gratitude: Begin by thanking the veteran for their service.
  • Share personal thoughts: Mention why their service matters to you or how it has impacted your life.
  • Keep it concise: Aim for a brief yet meaningful message.
  • Be sincere: Authenticity resonates more than elaborate language.
  • Handwritten touch: A handwritten letter adds a personal and heartfelt element.
